HOW MY JOURNEY BEGAN

As a Gen Ex baby born in the late 60’s, I grew up in North Texas attending Canyon Creek Elementary, Richardson North Junior High and JJ Pearce High School.  It was during a time when kids rode our bikes to places our parents knew nothing about, we played outside till dark and happily drank water from a garden hose.

From an early age I grew up around world renowned pioneers in preventive medicine. My father moved our family to Dallas at the invitation of a physician, Dr. Kenneth Cooper, who was launching the country’s first preventive health center, The Cooper Aerobics Center. My father, Russell Harris, would become the first employee and Executive Director at the Aerobics Center. It is where I grew up as a kid learning how to swim, dribble a basketball, run and lift weights. This background shapes the work we do with our clients by always prioritizing less costly prevention over expensive illness or injury.

Steve Harris and his wife, Kristen, have two boys and live in Dallas, Texas. Drew (pictured left) is now a Computer Science Engineer who lives and works in San Francisco, CA and their youngest son Blake will graduate as a Civil Engineer from Texas A&M.  Our family is pictured at one of our favorite vacation spots in Beaver Creek, Colorado.

“The favorite part of what I do for a living is working with clients and interacting with people so that my teams can serve as an extension of our clients. We can do anything together, but not everything. This is why it is important to help our clients sequence out our strategy in a manner that ensures success.  We must help our clients crawl before we walk and walk before we can finally run.”

When I meet with a prospective client, there are always four questions I am trying to answer: 1) can we make a measurable impact together? 2) is Alliant in a position to do terrific work? 3) Is what we propose to do priced so we will be competitive but still profitable? and 4) can we have fun?

After three decades working with firms of all sizes, my favorite part is always the people and trust we build through our work together.
